From the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare: State investment expands access to inpatient mental health treatment for Idaho youth
The newest addition to the Jackson House family of treatment centers is officially open in Idaho Falls.
Headwaters Behavioral Health Center is one of the recipients of grant funding approved by the Idaho state legislature in 2022, and will focus on serving children and adolescents across the state. During the ribbon-cutting ceremony, Jackson House President and CEO Dr. Bruce Figuered highlighted the need for age-specific mental health treatment in Idaho, noting that the youth suicide rate in the state is higher than the national average. Sending children and teens out of state for care is disruptive and costly, so facilities like Headwaters fill a critical gap in care.
Designed to serve up to 40 adolescents aged 12-17, the new residential facility ensures that patients can stay close to their families and communities, which make up an essential support system. The therapeutic model will include individualized care plans, therapy, and medication support that is tailored to young patients.
